In collaboration with MA Biodesign, in this group project, we explored alternative futures for CSM, examining how waste produced on campus could be converted into a material for growth.
During this project we focused on the weaving studio, learning about the history of weaving and recognising its social and cultural importance. We wanted to express this in how our material could become a space for growth, intertwining the human with the non-human.
As a group we created a narrative to how the biomaterial can support growth and the future impact it would have on the university. Through the collaboration with the weaving workshop that through a collation of the waste produced it could be woven into the tile and cared for, allowing for the fcultivation of plants. The material would be a host for plants such as ... to allow for natural dyes to be produced by the students.
As a group we produced 5 tiles that supported seed growth.
As part of the project we worked to produce a situated drawing (the first image) to bring back the dialougue and final outcome back into the space. We created all the props from found/waste materials within the building, aiming for a sustainable way of production. This also allowed me to undergo photography workshops and learning from Azim Haidaryanm on how to create magic.
