For my dissertation, I explored the idea of creating a sustainable food source within the disused architecture in Newcastle. By proposing a local food source benefiting the local community by regenerating an unused space and providing affordable food and employment.
Integrating sustainable vertical farms into the urban architecture coinciding with traditional agricultural methods in the UK, will help the country produce more fresh food without damaging the environment. The sustainable food supply will reduce food miles created by the UK, ensuring the amount of greenhouse gases released is diminished. By allowing vertical farming to be more integrated into the architecture of our cities helps them become more self-supported and will help create their own circular economy.
